How many binds are in Pasasana?

Thinking about this pose as being composed of 3 consecutive binds is useful.

The first bind wraps the outside of the shoulder around the outside of the knee. Keeping the shoulder down and locked in place is crucial to moving into the next two binds.

The second bind wraps the elbow around the shin bones. This assures that the legs stay tightly tucked together, and the hand is in the best possible position for the final bind.

The third and final bind is clasping the hands. In order to maximize the space when reaching the hands towards each other, it can be useful to twist the upper back while reaching from the opposite shoulder.
