Miami girl in Fort Lauderdale. What’s going on? Sorry if you’re not local, this just won’t make any sense to you. But if you are a Miami local, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

But seriously, I had a wonderful time exploring the new city of FLL. It surprised me how much it felt like the old days of Coconut Grove. Maybe it was the company of old friends who knew me before the world of yoga changed my life?

It has been awhile since I’ve been up this high in backbend. But I get by (and much higher) with a little help from my friends ✌️

What you do with the cards you’re dealt is entirely up to you. We cannot control the circumstances that surround us, but we can choose how we respond to them. Whether pleasure or pain, happy or sad, fun or boring, the freedom to choose our actions over unconscious reactions has the power to change our lives. This inner work of re-engineering our thoughts is the practice of yoga. Asana is just one of many tools.

The less we center ourselves, the more we realize our true self. The less self-referential our thinking is, the happier we are. And yet, we are unique, irreplaceable and our presence plays a vital role in the world around us. Sitting with this schism is a big part of the spiritual path.

Happy birthday to my Mom 🎉 I hope I have as muc

Happy birthday to my Mom 🎉 I hope I have as much energy and vibrancy as she does when I turn 80 🎂 Love and blessings to my amazing Mom, who has lead by example and inspired me my whole life. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without her endless love and support. I love you Mom 💕

Her birthday was yesterday, this was right after we opened presents and before we went out to dinner 😊

All the effort in the world won’t make a differe

All the effort in the world won’t make a difference unless the technique is good. If you try this pose by pushing the belly out, squeezing the shoulders and tightening the glutes, the body will feel very heavy.

Instead, do the opposite. Draw the navel in, internally rotate the shoulders and lift from the hips. Engage the legs and only one the pelvis feels maximally lifted, engage the glutes for support. Focus on lengthening the spine and finding your backbend.

As always, adjust and adapt the pose to work for you. If you need any to learn what technique best works for your body the best place is in person with a teacher. This video was filmed in beautiful Bali @radiantlyaliveyoga and we will be back next year for two weeks of practice in March. Come and practice with us in Bali and experience the magic of the practice and this special island paradise.

Do you ever wonder why you’re here, on this planet, what purpose your life truly serves? I have contemplated that question for nearly my entire life. I turned to yoga to help me find the answers I was searching for.

I don’t practice yoga to get better at the poses, but that’s always fun. I practice yoga to live a filled with purpose and meaning—to be kinder to myself and others, to see more clearly and act of love and wisdom. While I don’t have all the answers yet, and I am certainly not an enlightened master, I can say for certain that the practice helps me bring more light into my life.
