Sarvāṅgāsana is often called the queen of āsanas. This inversion carries a power that goes beyond its shape. When you lift into Shoulderstand you are not only strengthening the body but also awakening the subtle channels of prāṇa that flow through the system. The entire body is engaged, every limb is called to participate, and there is no hiding from yourself.

In yoga philosophy this posture is said to harmonize the whole being. The weight rests on the shoulders which activates the throat center and nourishes the thyroid and parathyroid. Circulation reverses, blood and lymph find new pathways, and the nervous system learns to rest in calm. Sarvāṅgāsana teaches us what it means to surrender while staying strong, to soften while holding steady, and to meet ourselves upside down with clarity and grace.

Do not rush the journey into this posture. Use props, variations, or the wall to support your practice and remember that yoga is never about perfection. Each breath in Shoulderstand is an invitation to cultivate patience and humility, to find stillness even when the world feels inverted.

Pressing up into Pinchamayurasana is a mix of strength and flexibility. Try these drills to find your path into the press up.

First, work the negative. Go up, however you can, and then slowly pivot at the hip joints and lower down.

Second, use Baby Bakasana as a drill to get the feeling of the hips, moving forward and up.

Third, work your flexibility in the elbow back then. This make sure that your external rotation is fully established and weight-bearing is available at the end range of motion.

Lastly, develop strength in the rotator cuff by lowering down from Downward Facing Dog into the Dolphin Plank.

Kindness. I believe in kindness, patient, unrelent

Kindness. I believe in kindness, patient, unrelenting, even illogical. If given the choice, I will do everything in my power to turn towards kindness, over and over again, for my own interests, yes, but also for the benefit of others.

Even if rejected or misunderstood, never once have I regretted being kind. Instead, the moments where I lashed out, acted from anger, judged harshly, or held onto grudges are the ones that I regret. And, yes, I’ve done all that and still do. None of us always succeed in living up to our highest standards all the time, no matter how hard we try.

Yoga is the effort we put in, not the demand of absolute or immediate perfection. We are not expected to do every pose perfectly, not the first time and maybe not ever. But I believe we are meant to learn to be kind to ourselves somewhere along the way of the practice journey.

It is said that the quality of a yogi’s mind is sattva, from sat (being, truth) and the suffix -tva (the state of), meaning the very essence of true being, which manifests as clarity, harmony, and kindness in thought, word, and deed. From kindness flows a river of love and peace, but only if we follow its twisting, winding course. These are hard choices because so often kindness requires going against instinct, old hurt, and neural patterning.

Strength is not just some lift up. Strength means that even though everything screams to build walls and protect, I will remain soft, extend a hand, and keep my heart open. And when the hand is bitten, my heart is hurt, and the drums of hate, anger, and resentment start rattling, I will not answer their call. When depression threatens to pull me under and asks me to direct all the negativity toward myself and implode, and I feel I can no longer stand on my own, I will ask for help and for Grace to guide me back to the path.

Over and over, stumbling, tripping, failing, falling, no matter how many times, always learning, I will pick myself back up again and search out the clues that lead back to the path of kindness. This is a big part of what yoga means to me.

I got on my mat today feeling tired and unmotivated, but I showed up anyway. Some days I am honestly just grateful I made it through. There is no perfect, there is only practice.

Some days āsana feels like a lifeline. Other days it feels heavy, clumsy, even a struggle. And then there are moments when practice becomes something mysterious and filled with grace, offering hope right when I need it most.

If I need humility, I stumble. If I need to slow down, the body feels heavy. If I need to be lifted up, small sparks of curiosity open doors to inner discovery. If I need to listen, a still small voice calls me to tune into the frequency of Grace.

Patañjali writes that the state of yoga is reached through a balance of practice and non-attachment, abhyāsa-vairāgyābhyāṁ tan-nirodhaḥ (Yoga Sūtra I.12). We have to learn how to live this teaching in real time on the mat (and then maybe it also shows up off the mat!). Some days through struggle, some days through surrender, always persistent and patient.

This is the gift of practice. Not always easy, not always beautiful, but always real.
