With so much turbulence in the world around us, we turn to our practice—not as an escape, but as a way to steady ourselves amidst the waves. The work of yoga is not just physical; it is a deep, inner refinement. Through practice, we redirect the senses inward, quiet the noise, and begin to see more clearly. A mind clouded by agitation will perceive the world through that same distortion, while a mind at peace has the potential to witness reality as it truly is.

None of us are immune to moments of confusion, to seeing through the lens of our own conditioning. But practice—when done with sincerity—can help illuminate what was once obscured. If, after years on this path, we find ourselves moving toward greater wisdom, humility, and compassion, then the practice is working.

As my teacher often reminded me, the path of yoga is not easy. It is lifelong. It asks us to return again and again, with patience, honesty, and an open heart. And so, we keep practicing 🙏

What defines an advanced asana is not just how dee

What defines an advanced asana is not just how deeply the body twists and bends but how the heart opens and the spirit grows. My teacher always said kindness is what impressed him more than any asana. He also started to emphasize accessibility in Ashtanga.

Yoga cannot be judged by what variation of the asana or what asanas someone is able to include in their practice. Different bodies are just that—different. There is no guarantee that a practitioner who is bending, folding and lifting deeply is also actually practicing yoga deeply. Instead yoga is an inner journey that can only be seen in the mirror of our lives.

Accessible variations allow more people to do the work of yoga. Using the chair for Parsvakonasana provides a stable base to steady the hips and even the sitting bones. This support makes the asana more accessible ans helps alignment for many.

Strength is not something that came easily for me.

Strength is not something that came easily for me. I still work on it every day. These are a few things that really helped me and still help me now.

First, having a teacher who believed in me more than I believed in myself made a big difference. When they told me to lift up, I tried and faced down the failure over and over again.

Second, when a pose brings up negative self talk, it’s a good sign that the pose is shining light on a hidden pattern. It’s a perfect opportunity to build mental strength and change the old habit of thinking.

Third, good technique really helps! Putting in the right type of effort can make all the difference.

Fourth, patience and incremental change are crucial. The process cannot be rushed or forced.

And of course, keep practicing 🙏

Next year will be our fourth consecutive visit to Bali to shwe the magic of Ashtanga Yoga. We want you to join us!

We will be teaching an immersive 2-week, 50-hour Ashtanga Yoga training in the magical setting of Bali! Whether you’re a student or teacher, this training will deepen your practice with a focus on asana, meditation, pranayama, and philosophy.

Start each morning with guided or Mysore-style practice and spend the afternoons breaking down key elements of the asanas. You’ll learn movement principles that will transform your understanding of yoga.

Week One focuses on the foundations—asana, anatomy, technique, and alignment.

Week Two builds on this, weaving in deeper practices like meditation, breathwork, and yoga philosophy to help you discover what yoga truly is, beyond asana.
