When I first stepped into the demanding terrain of the advanced postures under the guidance of my teachers in India, I did not arrive with confidence. I arrived with doubt. The shapes felt impossibly distant, and I did not feel worthy of them, or ready. And yet I tried, not because I believed in myself, but because they believed in me.

Transmission happens in the presence of a teacher who sees something in you before you see it in yourself. Through steady encouragement over time that borrowed belief becomes an inner resource. What begins as something external takes root within, and the teacher’s vision becomes a mirror through which the student begins to recognize their own capacity.

After nearly three decades of daily Ashtanga Yoga practice, I can say that who I am has been shaped not only by my own effort, but by the ground my teachers held for me. I showed up, I practiced, I stayed through repetition and failure, but it was their belief that sustained the path when my own certainty wavered. Over the years, the postures that once felt impossible have become familiar, but the deeper lesson remains. Progress is not measured by complexity.

What we sustain over decades is not just a sequence of postures, but a relationship. A relationship to practice, to lineage, to those who guided us, and to the parts of ourselves that are still learning how to believe.

After moving through each posture step by step, we begin to experience how everything comes together. The strength, the flexibility, the breath, and the focus all find their place within the flow of the sequence.

What once felt like separate pieces now starts to connect.

There is a steadiness that develops through repetition, a familiarity that allows the practice to feel more fluid and more grounded. Each movement is supported by what has been built along the way.

This is not an end point, but a continuation.

The practice evolves as you return to it, again and again, with greater awareness and intention.

The Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga, traditionally known as Yoga Cikitsā, is a method designed to purify and stabilize both body and mind. Through its structured sequence of postures, linked by breath and movement, it builds strength, flexibility, and endurance while regulating the nervous system. Over time, the repetition of the sequence becomes a moving meditation, refining focus, cultivating discipline, and anchoring the practitioner in a steady, rhythmic breath.

More than a collection of poses, the Primary Series offers a complete framework for practice. It teaches patience, humility, and consistency, inviting you to meet yourself honestly each day.

On the final day of the Ashtanga Reset Challenge, step onto the mat for a Full Primary Series with me. This is a chance to bring everything together, each posture, each breath, each moment of focus woven into one continuous practice.

We move into the practice of inversion.

Headstand asks for patience, persistence, and a strong foundation. It can feel intimidating at first, especially when balance feels uncertain and progress seems slow.

But this is part of the process.

Rather than rushing toward the final shape, the work begins in the shoulders. Stability is built from the ground up, creating a foundation that can support the body with clarity and control.

Each attempt, even the ones that feel unsuccessful, is part of the learning. Over time, strength develops, awareness deepens, and what once felt impossible begins to shift.

The posture is not something to conquer, but something to grow into.
