Lolasana is never easy for me! Even when I manage to lift a little I feel there is so much more work to do.

Be creative. Use a strap to tie yourself, recruit your friends to tie it even tighter, and place two blocks under the hands. You might even surprise yourself when the strap carries the body to a higher lift.

If you’re feeling lost in your practice—

This path isn’t meant to be easy.
It won’t always feel easy.
It cuts through delusion—not gently, but like a blade of truth.
And still we walk it, again and again—not because we love the pain, but because beneath the suffering is a joy so vast, it can only be touched through surrender.

And yet we are not our practice.
We are the space that holds it all.

Each of us contains great, unknowable depth—oceans of it.
And from the surface, none of it can be judged.

We are all students, stumbling toward the light.

Making the practice truly accessible to anyone who

Making the practice truly accessible to anyone who feels called to it is part of our shared responsibility as yoga teachers. It is more important than ever to distinguish the heart of the practice from rigid dogma. When we mistake form for essence, we risk turning this sacred path into something exclusionary. Accessibility doesn’t take us away from the lineage—it draws us closer to its compassionate core.

In this variation of Virabhadrasana I (Warrior I), a chair can be used to support hip stability and encourage clear alignment. Press firmly through both feet, activating the legs. Lift up through the center line of the body, from the pelvic floor to the crown of the head. Externally rotate the shoulders and extend the arms upward. To reduce tension, consider keeping the hands shoulder-width apart and gently soften the gaze forward rather than up.

All the knowledge of yoga is like a vast and immea

All the knowledge of yoga is like a vast and immeasurable ocean—timeless, deep, and flowing beyond the limits of any one life or mind. As seekers, we often find ourselves standing at its edge, reaching into its depths, grasping for understanding. Yet, like water slipping through our fingers, the more we try to possess this knowledge, the more it eludes us. Grasping tightly, we find only emptiness. So what are we to do?

Rather than clutch at the ocean, we can become like vessels—empty, open, and ready to receive. A pot cannot hold water if it is already full. In the same way, we must empty ourselves of preconceptions, pride, and attachment in order to receive even a drop of the wisdom that yoga offers. And even then, one vessel can only carry so much. But if many vessels are linked together—like pots arranged in a line, or beads strung on a thread—then more of this sacred water can be carried and shared.

This is the spirit of paramparā.

The Sanskrit word paramparā (परम्परा) is derived from param, meaning “beyond” or “supreme,” and parā, which implies “that which comes next” or “a succession.” Literally, it means “an uninterrupted series” or “one after another.” In the yogic tradition, paramparā refers to the unbroken transmission of wisdom from teacher to student—a living lineage in which knowledge is not merely transferred but infused with direct experience, grace, and realization.

Lineage is not just about preserving the past—it is about entering into relationship: student with teacher, teacher with their teacher, and so on, all the way back to the source. In this chain, we become more than individuals—we become conduits of a living wisdom, each of us playing our part in keeping the current flowing. In this way, lineage is not a limitation, but a form of liberation—freeing us from the illusion that we must carry this alone.
