Just trying to do a handstand or deep backbend can feel intimidating and utterly daunting. What we need is a method instead of blind effort. No matter how complex a movement seems it can be broken down into the smaller mechanics so the mind and body can learn. There is a drill for every yoga pose and for everyone!

In this Advanced Yoga Drills series, the focus is not on achieving the shape, but on understanding how to get there. Through targeted, intelligent drills, you begin to develop the deeper layers of strength that support arm balances, inversions, and backbends. Compression, control, and coordination become something you cultivate over time, not something you force.

This is the work behind the practice that allows the mind and body to experience the slow refinement of technique. Drills are a way to return to the fundamentals again and again. Each drill becomes a way of listening more closely, of building awareness in places that were once unconscious.

Over time, the body and mind respond. The hips become lighter. The shoulders more stable. The transitions more fluid. What once felt impossible begins to feel accessible, not because of effort alone, but because of understanding.

This is how practice evolves, not just through pushing, but through steady precise, intentional work.

Bali keeps calling us back.

Tim and I have been returning to this island for years and every time, something opens in our hearts here. Maybe it’s the culture, the coconuts, the morning air before the sun gets serious. Maybe it’s that the people who make the journey to Ubud are already arriving with intention. Probably all of it.

Next year we expanding our teaching into a full Bali Mysore Season @radiantlyaliveyoga — one of the most beautiful shalas we’ve ever practiced in.

Come for one week, two weeks, or all three. Join for Mysore mornings only, afternoons only, or the whole thing.

Week One workshops go deep into Primary Series — the structure, breath, and internal logic of Yoga Chikitsa.

Week Two workshop is Assisting School — hands-on assists grounded in consent, anatomy, and genuine care.

Week Three workshops move into the inner limbs — pranayama, meditation, subtle practices, philosophy.

This is the kind of teaching that takes time. Three weeks in Bali with a community of practitioners who are serious about the path changes something for us all. We hope you can join us.

Who we are is not what we have or haven’t achieved. Who we are is the field in which all experience arises, the pulse of life itself, the current of energy and awareness that moves through breath, through body, through thought, and beyond it. And when that is even briefly recognized, there is a kind of freedom that no achievement could ever give, and no failure could ever take away.

Who we are is not a résumé of experiences. It is not the accumulation of praise or the weight of disappointment. Who we are is alive. It is energy, vibration, presence. In Sanskrit, the word prāṇa carries this sense of living force, derived from the root √an, “to breathe, to live, to move,” pointing toward the animating intelligence that flows through all things.

We practice not to become someone, but to express, more clearly and more truthfully, what has always been there.
