Working with good technique can make a big differe

Working with good technique can make a big difference in your forward fold. Stiffening the spine and forcing the back to be too straight creates tension that prevents you from entering the pose deeply. Instead, try relaxing the neck and the shoulders, shifting the body weight forward, and relaxing the back muscles. Overtime practicing with good technique will deepen your forward fold.

Handstand is more than a physical feat for me. Handstand is a journey of the impossible. When I first started the practice, there was no way I had the strength or the self-confidence to even try a handstand. It’s only after many years of practice that this has become possible. Any pose can be just a pose. It is all about the lesson that you learn along the way.

I am back in California this week @lovestoryyoga to teach for five days with @timfeldmannyoga starting today and we hope to see you there! You can join for a single class, the whole thing or just the weekend and how that translates the living, a happier and more peaceful life.

Miami girl in Fort Lauderdale. What’s going on? Sorry if you’re not local, this just won’t make any sense to you. But if you are a Miami local, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

But seriously, I had a wonderful time exploring the new city of FLL. It surprised me how much it felt like the old days of Coconut Grove. Maybe it was the company of old friends who knew me before the world of yoga changed my life?

What you do with the cards you’re dealt is entirely up to you. We cannot control the circumstances that surround us, but we can choose how we respond to them. Whether pleasure or pain, happy or sad, fun or boring, the freedom to choose our actions over unconscious reactions has the power to change our lives. This inner work of re-engineering our thoughts is the practice of yoga. Asana is just one of many tools.

The less we center ourselves, the more we realize our true self. The less self-referential our thinking is, the happier we are. And yet, we are unique, irreplaceable and our presence plays a vital role in the world around us. Sitting with this schism is a big part of the spiritual path.
