SharathJi, it’s been a year since you left and there’s so much left undone, so much left unfinished. We will have to walk, sometimes and often along a lonely path, without you standing before us even as we keep you in our hearts. The echo of your devotion, your grace, your discipline, guides us still. In the living thread of practice, we meet you again and again.

Grief is a powerful teacher. It doesn’t ask for permission before it arrives—it simply comes, and turns the familiar inside out, leaving us raw and exposed to the mystery of loss. Lately, it feels like many of us are walking through that same landscape, learning how to live in the absence of what once anchored us.

SharathJi’s sudden departure left a void that can’t be filled. When we lost our teacher, we also lost the reflection of who we were in his eyes. There was a certain refuge in being a student—the comfort of knowing that someone stood before us as a mirror, a guide, a guardian of our path.

Elizabeth Kübler-Ross and David Kessler wrote, “The reality is that you will grieve forever. You will not ‘get over’ the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it. You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again, but you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same, nor would you want to.”

May we continue to walk the path together, in this life and the next 🙏

Life is full of simple joys. No matter how complic

Life is full of simple joys. No matter how complicated some things may actually really be, there is always an opportunity to pause and let the ordinary magic in. The sound of rain, the soft light of morning, a moment of kindness offered or received—all of these can open the heart in quiet ways. We spend so much of life searching for happiness in grand gestures, future plans, and the approval of others, yet the most enduring happiness often comes in moments so small we almost miss them.

Each time we decide to let happiness quietly into our heart, we come closer to our true self. This quiet joy is not naive or blind to pain. It does not deny the world’s suffering or our own. Instead, it recognizes that beneath all turbulence there remains a clear space in the heart that cannot be destroyed.

No one can ever take away our ability to feel love. Love arises not as something earned or given, but as the natural state of an unclouded heart.

My teachers always told me to be stronger.

It isn’t necessary to participate in, or agree with, other people’s opinions about you. No one holds the entire picture of who you are or what you’ve lived through. Judgments about character, assumptions about motives, and accusations dressed up as morality or spirituality say more about the person who makes them than they ever do about you.

True spiritual strength does not come from being defended, praised, or understood. It rises quietly from within—rooted in faith, practice, and the unshakeable knowing that your worth is not determined by others’ opinions. Strength is not the hard shell we build to protect ourselves from pain; it is the steady flame that keeps burning in the heart no matter how strong the wind blows.

Just landed the Windy City (hope it’s not too windy though). Loving this beautiful fall day in Chicago!
