There is beauty and poetry in every corner of the

There is beauty and poetry in every corner of the world if only we open our eyes and heart to see and feel it. What we see all around us is a reflection of what we see inside of ourselves. Maybe as we learn to love and accept who we are, we will learn to love and accept all that is. In the meanwhile, we keep practicing.

It’s been so long since I’ve been in Italy that I nearly forgot how picturesque it is everywhere here.

My very first retreat @yogainsalento starts tomorrow with the first practice on Sunday. I’m looking forward to sharing space with this group of students who have carved out time in their lives to devote to the practice.

What fun things do you recommend for me to experience around Salento? I have also heard that the beach is beautiful nearby and that there are some nice nature walks to go on. What else?

My yin class returns this Thursday at 10 am EST and I’ll be streaming it live from Italy! Join me for the practice.

On top of the world with lucky clouds behind me. I will take that to be a sign of blessing and good fortune.

The world is what we make of it. We believe the stories we tell about reality and we can reframe our experience to tell a story that works better for us.

Part of the journey lies in training the mind to sculpt a view of reality that best serves the spiritual purpose. When we are in doubt and disbelief, in competition and jealousy, in anxiety and anger, the stories tell themselves. To chose peace, healing, freedom, power and kindness requires great strength. This is part of why we practice.

Magic seems to happen for me when I let go of how

Magic seems to happen for me when I let go of how I think things should be and open myself up to how things are. Whether it’s a life goal or my yoga practice, whenever I force it or stress out about it, the life energy seems to get squeezed out. If I can have just enough faith to trust that what is meant to be will be and that I am where I need to be doing what I need to be doing, everything somehow falls into place.

Of course, it’s easy to feel the flow when I’m on vacation. It’s harder to live in that state of ease in the midst of all the things to do, places to go, people to see. And yet, I try, just like in the practice, even if I stumble and fall, it all brings me onto the path, one step, one breath at a time.

On the beach in Greece feels like paradise. We found a beach surrounded by mountains at the end of a dirt road where the water is crystal clear and the breeze whispers of a time gone by. Clothing of course is optional. We could disappear here for awhile. Maybe one day we will.

Take the time to appreciate the goodness. Make a note of what went well, even if it’s something so small that it might be easy to miss.

We are on vacation this week and I am so grateful for these special days of no planning, no work, just existing. This sunset was like pure magic after a dreamy day.

Learning to listen to the body’s language is whe

Learning to listen to the body’s language is where the spiritual journey of asana begins. The body speaks softly with gentle hints and nudges. If we aren’t able to hear its voice or understand the message, the body speaks louder, in aches and pains that grow until we finally pay attention.

All the while the body is our best friend. Never tiring to work for our best interest, the body tried to heal the damage we do to it. Constantly reaching for balance and health, the body’s baseline mechanic is always tilted in our favor. Even the aches and pains are not punitive, just messages from this amazing vehicle that does everything it can to be what we need.

Many years of yoga may not guarantee performs of fancy looking aesthetic shapes. Many years of yoga practice is meant to build a bridge of friendship between mind and body. It’s in this harmony that the magic of yoga happens.

I didn’t grow up going on hikes in the mountains

I didn’t grow up going on hikes in the mountains, but it’s one of my favorite things to do now. Nature is healing. There is nothing quite like breathing the fresh air and being in the presence of wild trees and flowers.

People ask me all the time which my favorite place, but I can’t answer that. I really love wherever I am and I must say that I also really love Greece.

Tim and I are teaching this weekend in Athens @onesoul_sofia One more day left tomorrow. Then we are going Mykonos for a little holiday. Would you want to join us for a retreat in Greece one day?
