Did you ever wonder why it’s called Pyramid Pose?

Pārśvottānāsana holds within it the quiet wisdom of sacred geometry. The body takes the shape of a living pyramid, the legs forming a wide, steady base and the spine rising in a line of aspiration. Across traditions and centuries, the pyramid has symbolized the meeting of the human and the divine, the grounded and the transcendent. In yoga, that same principle becomes embodied.

As you fold forward, the feet root into the earth, the legs channel energy upward, and the heart bows in devotion. The pose becomes a temple built from your own body, where strength and surrender meet.

In the Ashtanga method, Pārśvottānāsana is the bridge between standing and seated postures, a quiet moment of alignment and awareness that invites steadiness of body and clarity of mind. When the outer form finds balance, the inner landscape softens and expands.

Grace surrounds us more than we often realize. It lives in the teachings that first opened the doorway to the spiritual path, and it lives in the community of practitioners who share our longing for clarity and peace. We are held by so many unseen hands, guided by wisdom that has traveled through centuries to reach us.

And yet, the deepest work always rests within our own hearts. No teacher, no friend, no community can walk the inner labyrinth for us. We must be the ones who sit with the fog of our own thoughts, who ask the difficult questions, who wrestle with our patterns and our pain until something shifts from the inside out. The teachings offer direction, but the journey requires our steps.

Two people can experience the same moment and walk away with entirely different truths. There isa quiet strength in recognizing that we choose the meaning we give to our experiences. Thoughts are not solid, but they shape the world we live in. When we redirect the current of the mind toward clarity and compassion, the inner dictators lose their grip on us and freedom rings within.

And all of this is a work in progress. Every day we begin again. Every day we refine, and learn. The path is never finished, and neither are we.

We can only ever manage our own energy. We are only ever truly responsible for our own emotions. Neither can we expect someone else to regulate our reality, nor can we expect to bring peace to someone else.

What we can do is practice tools and teachings that can lead to peace, harmony and love. And, once we get established in those tools and teachings, we can offer those to anyone who is genuinely interested.

Practice is more often than not something that unfolds in a quiet, personal unseen space. This morning, I woke up before my flight to maintain the ritual of daily practice. Long before the sunrise, in the silence of the night there is a path that holds true to all I learned from my teachers. It takes patience and discipline to make that journey every morning. If we can find the motivation to practice every day, the practice itself will provide sustenance for the journey of life.

I am taking a turn inward and focusing on both my personal practice and remaining true to the tools and teachings I have had the grace to receive from my teachers. One day, perhaps you’ll join me for practice or perhaps you’ll find your own path. Either way, I’ll be on my mat, on my cushion, doing the work, and practicing every day.
