Grief is not something we get over. It is something we learn to carry.

So often we are told to move on, to be strong, to find closure and return to normal life as quickly as possible. But grief doesn’t work that way. When we lose someone we love, when a community changes, when a dream dissolves, or when the world feels heavy with suffering, something inside us is permanently reshaped.

In this conversation with @jspark3000 , we explore the idea that grief is not a problem to solve, but a reflection of love. Grief exists because something mattered. And instead of pushing it away, what if we allowed it to soften us? What if we let it expand our capacity for compassion, presence, and tenderness?

Spiritual practice doesn’t remove pain from our lives. It teaches us how to sit with it. How to breathe through it. How to remain human in moments when it would be easier to shut down or turn away.

And in a time when so much feels uncertain, when loss and change touch so many lives, maybe the real practice is learning how to stay open. To keep loving. To keep showing up. To carry both the sorrow and the beauty of being alive.

Because grief changes shape, but love remains.

While it may feel natural to squeeze the shoulder

While it may feel natural to squeeze the shoulder blades together in Uṣṭrāsana, try a different approach. Instead of drawing the scapulae towards each other, allow the shoulders to internally rotate slightly, letting the upper trapezius lift and broaden. This upward support helps cradle the neck and creates space, rather than compression, in the cervical spine.

Today’s practice returns to familiar territory with fresh awareness. Using Ustrasana, we revisit patterns you explored earlier in the challenge, not to chase depth, but to notice change. Subtle shifts in breath, ease, and confidence all count.
Progress is not always dramatic. Often it shows up quietly, in how the body responds and how the mind relates to effort.

Sometimes progress asks not for effort, but for release. Many of us, myself included, feel compelled to move quickly into action. Yet the meditative mind teaches that turning attention inward is not inactivity. It is often the necessary ground from which healing, clarity, and renewal quietly arise.

Day 28 of the January 30 Day Flexibility Challenge is Padmasana.

Today’s practice centers on Padmasana as a place to slow down, soften effort, and allow the body to absorb the work of the past weeks. This is a restorative pause that invites stillness, breath awareness, and integration rather than striving for depth. Rest is an essential part of progress. When the body is given space to settle, flexibility and strength have room to organize and stabilize.

Straddle has always felt hard for me. Sometimes I even wondered if I have the wrong bone structure to be able to work on middle splits. But, like anything else with practice it has dramatically improved.

Day 27 of the January 30 Day Flexibility Challenge is Samakonasana.

Today’s practice centers on Samakonasana, using the wide straddle as a way to integrate strength, flexibility, and coordination across the whole body. Rather than isolating one area, we explore how the legs, hips, spine, and breath work together in fluid movement. This class emphasizes connection. When flexibility is integrated, it becomes more stable, functional, and embodied.
