I’ve missed the beach—the sand, the sea, the endless horizon—and yes, the handstands too (though I seem to do those everywhere).

No, yoga is not just handstands and sunshine (but that doesn’t mean that either is illegal).

No, this isn’t my actual practice—that happened in silence before the sun rose, no photos, just breath and stillness.

No, you don’t need a beach or a handstand to practice yoga—the real journey is always within.

Yes, sometimes it’s nice to play, to feel the salt air, to remember that joy is also part of the path.

Putting your leg behind your head is not the point. The real practice is what you learn about yourself on the way there.

In the Yoga Sūtra, sthira sukham āsanam is the heart of posture. Steady and easeful. Even here. Especially here. If the inner balance is missing, the outer shape is empty. If the breath is steady, the mind can soften and the body will follow.

From a practical view, prioritize the hip joint. Create deep external rotation without asking the knee to do the job of the hip. Engage the core to stabilize the lumbar. Keep the spine long and supported. Enter slowly. Listen closely. If there is pain in the knee, back out. There is no prize for pushing through signals your body is giving you.

Some bodies will never rest the leg behind the head. That does not matter. Flexibility without strength is unstable. Strength without sensitivity is rigid. The work is integration. Tapas to show up, svādhyāya to study your patterns, īśvarapraṇidhāna to release control and trust the path of practice.

If this pose reveals frustration, impatience, or the urge to perform, let that be the teaching. Breathe. Simplify. Return to the foundation. When steadiness meets softness, the posture begins to reveal itself from the inside out.

Yoga is, at its heart, the training of the mind. We may begin with the body, with the rhythm of breath and the repetition of postures, but these are gateways. The true aim of yoga is not the bend of the spine or the openness of the hips, but the steadiness of the mind.

Our thoughts are seeds that root and flower in the lives we live. When thoughts are restless or heavy with negativity, our days take on that same shape. But when the mind is softened and steadied, life reflects that inner peace.

On the mat, thoughts often rise like messages from deep within. I have faced the same refrains: I am not good enough, not strong enough, not doing enough. They persist because they carry a grain of truth. We can always improve, and we are also already enough. The danger lies in how the mind interprets this tension. Left untrained, it spirals into self-doubt.

Practice gives me the tools to pause, to breathe, and to reach for a more constructive pattern. Yoga does not erase the thought but transforms my relationship with it. What once felt like a tidal wave now arrives as a ripple.

As the Bhagavad Gītā reminds us that for one who has conquered the mind, the mind becomes the best friend. For one who has not, it can be the worst enemy.

Yoga teaches us to make the mind our ally. Each breath, each posture, each moment of stillness is training for this inner victory.

The Mysore room is a magical space of intimacy and connection.

In the quiet rhythm of breath, a shared current flows where students and teachers alike meeting themselves on the mat, again and again. The practice is not about perfection or performance, but about showing up honestly, with whatever the day brings.

Some mornings the body feels light and open, other days it feels heavy and resistant. Yet in the silence of the room, surrounded by others on the same path, we realize we are never alone. Each practice becomes part of something bigger: a living lineage carried through devotion, discipline, and community.

The magic of the Mysore room is not in what postures we “get,” but in the connection to our own heart, to our teacher, to the breath, and to the timeless thread of yoga itself.

Many students have noticed that we have been teaching more together. Our last retreat this year will be in Salento September 20-26 @yogainsalento

We love the Italian countryside, the white sand beaches, the beautiful students and of course, the very handsome Arturo.
